Poison headlines Glam Slam Metal Jam.  Metal band Poison will host and headline the Glam Slam Metal Jam at Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati on July 24. Bea Arthur in Cincinnati. Former-Golden Girl Bea Arthur will give seven stand-up comedy performances at the Jarson-Kaplan Theater in Cincinnati between July 11 to 15. Tickets are on sale at all ticket master locations, over the phone at 513-241-SHOW or online at www.sfx.com.

Columbus Symphony Orchestra. The Columbus Symphony Orchestra will perform on June 29 and 30 on the lawn of Chemical Abstract Services as part of the 2001 Picnic with the Pops summer concert series. Looking for something to do this weekend?  Following is a list of scheduled events beginning June 22nd.

*Country Concert. 

Country Concert '01 will be held Thursday, July 5 to Sunday, July 8 at Hickory Hill Lakes in Newport, west of Sidney. It will feature acts such as Randy Travis, Vince Gill, Lonestar, Lee Ann Womack, the Oak Ridge Boys and Travis Tritt. Call 295-3001 for details.

*Sidney Air Fair. 

The 10th annual Sidney Air Fair will be held June 30 at Sidney Municipal Airport. About 25 vintage aircraft will be on display. Also, airplane and helicopter rides will be offered from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. About 100 private planes are expected to fly in for the event as well. Children's games will be available. Meals start early and continue through the day. They include a hot dog stand, pancake and sausage breakfast from 7 to 11:30 a.m. and chicken dinners from noon to 5 p.m. For advance food tickets, call the Christian Academy staff.

*St. Joe Fourth of July. 

Saint Joseph Church will host its annual Fourth of July festival at Auglaize County Fairgrounds in Wapakoneta. The event begins July 3 at 4 p.m. and ends around midnight on July 4. There will be food, rides, a demolition derby for $5 and tractor pull for $4. There will be fireworks and a raffle drawing on the evening of July 4. Admission to the fairgrounds is free.

*Party on the Beach at Indian Lake. 

Friends of the Lake will host the third annual Party on the Beach Sunday through Tuesday (July 1-3). There will be live entertainment each day, featuring Christian, pop and country music. The festival begins at 11 a.m. each day and ends between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m.

*By-Gone Days in Mechanicsburg. 

The Darby Creek Historical Society will host By-Gone Days at Goshen Park in Mechanicsburg on July 20-22. The event will include historic farm equipment displays, historic reenactments, a parade on Friday and a Little Miss By-Gone Days pageant on Saturday. For details, call 653-7864 or 834-2654.

Electric Space: Bolts, Jolts and Volts from the Sun exhibit. 

The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery is running its Electric Space: Bolts, Jolts and Volts from the Sun exhibit, which will run till August 30. The exhibit will teach about solar winds, magnetic storms and other forms of “space whether” and how they affect the Earth. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and $4.50 for children from 2 to 12. Members and children under the age of two get in free. *Chicken and Ribs. 

Sidney American Legion Post 217 will host a chicken and ribs dinner on June 29 from 5 to 8 p.m. The dinner, which includes two pieces of either white or dark meat and a slab of ribs, costs $7. The legion is located on 1265 N. Fourth Ave. Those who want carryouts must call 492-6410.

*Lake Loramie derby. 

Lake Loramie State Park in Minster, with the Division of Wildlife, will host a fishing event on Saturday, June 30 from 9 a.m. to noon. The event is for anyone under 18 years old, though 16 and 17 year olds must have a valid Ohio fishing license. Wildlife officials plan to stock 750 catfish in a fenced channel to ensure plenty of fish are present. They will also provide limited bait and some fishing poles for those who have none. The event, located next to the beach parking lot, is free. Call 937-295-2011 for details.

*Drum Corps performs. 

Soaring Sounds' Drum Corps will perform at Centerville High School Stadium on Sunday, July 29 at 7 p.m. It will include corps from Concord, California, Madison Wisconsin and Toledo. Call 434-9986 for tickets. Proceeds go to Centerville High School band programs.
